1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) describes conduct that is prohibited when using the mothertree managed service (“Service”). This AUP is part of our Terms of Service and applies to all users of the Service.
mothertree uses end-to-end encryption (“E2EE”), which means we cannot proactively monitor the content of your communications. This AUP is enforced through our complaint-based process described below.

3. Enforcement Process
Because mothertree uses E2EE, we cannot independently inspect the content of your communications. Enforcement follows our complaint-based process:
- Complaint received: We receive a complaint alleging a violation of this AUP.
- Notification: We present the substance of the complaint to you.
- Response period: You have 14 days to respond with evidence addressing the complaint.
- Decision: If you fail to respond, or your response does not satisfactorily address the complaint, we will take enforcement action.
Immediate action
We reserve the right to take immediate action — including suspension without prior notice — in cases involving:
- Imminent harm to persons
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
- Threats to platform integrity or availability
- Legal requirements to act immediately
4. Consequences
Violations of this AUP may result in escalating consequences:
- Warning: Notification of the violation with a request to cease the prohibited conduct.
- Suspension: Temporary restriction of access to the Service.
- Termination: Permanent removal of your account and access to the Service.
The severity of consequences depends on the nature and severity of the violation, whether it is a repeat offense, and the degree of harm caused or risked.
5. Appeals
If your account is suspended or terminated, you may appeal the decision within 30 days by contacting us at info@mother-tree.org. Appeals will be reviewed and you will receive a response.
6. Reporting Violations
If you believe someone is violating this AUP, please report it to info@mother-tree.org. Include as much detail as possible to help us evaluate the complaint.
7. Changes to This Policy
When we update this AUP, we will:
- Publish the new version at a new versioned URL
- Provide reasonable notice before changes take effect
